Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has said that Bayern Munich Serge Gnabry was not mature enough at former side Arsenal. The Germany international has transformed into an exceptional attacker since his breakthrough season with Bayern last term and he has already contributed 30 goals in all competitions for the club.
Out of those, he has bagged 17 goals during the course of the current campaign and he has also impressed with his distribution in the final third with 10 assists. Gnabry recently starred against Chelsea in the Champions League by scoring a brace and speaking after that game, Giroud appreciated the progress made by the former Gunners graduate.
He added that Gnabry was not mature enough at the north London side and he is pleased that the German has become a solid performer over the past few years, he told: “I’m pleased for him. I played with him at 16 and he was not mature enough but obviously at 16 nobody is. The way he has improved is amazing. He’s doing so well for two or three years now.I’m happy for him because he is a good guy. He deserves it and worked a lot. It’s good for him.”
Bayern sealed a comfortable 3-0 win over the Blues during the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 at Stamford Bridge. With the result, they have surely put the tie to bed but won’t be able to depend on the services of Robert Lewandowski for the home leg at the Allianz Arena. The Poland international picked up a knee injury during the opening leg and Bayern have confirmed that he won’t be available for the next four weeks.
That may not affect Bayern for the Blues game but they should be concerned over his absence for the Bundesliga matches. Bayern have had a tough tussle at the top of the league table and second-placed RB Leipzig are currently just one point behind them. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, are a couple of points behind Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
